Your computer is not able to connect to the Internet, and you cannot ping your IP or default gateway once the error has occurred. All computers get their IP address from DHCP. Switched it to a different port and away it went. When I ran into this error, I had a machine that had the correct IP and Subnet Mask, and DNS settings, but no default gateway configured.
