A computer running Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 4 or later might be able to access some files. With all of these steps completed my drive attachment/removal problem was fixed : I successfully attached a FAT32 mass storage device and safely removed it four times in a row. I have a 1TB Hitachi simpledrive which was formatted in NTFS and an Oppo dvd-player that only supported USB drives formatted with the FAT or FAT32 file system; therefore, I needed Anyhow, somebody please set the record straight. I can verify that I just used post #18's link and it worked beautifully to format a 1tb external hard drive to FAT32 for use with the PS3.

Works like a charm. However, if you have a drive that is 1TB or larger, you may still get an error saying â€śThe volume is too big for FAT32â€ť.
FAT32 also has a limit of 65 K entries in a directory (FAT16 was 512 files). There're a few steps in here that're prolly unnecessary that I just added to make sure you get to the right folder. Now the computer does not find the external HDD at all. Looking at these registry keys I found they contained the snapman driver, which Google revealed to be an Acronis product.
If you use Ccleaner, don't use its registry cleaner, or any other. It took about 3-4 hours for my 1TB to be formatted but I didnt lose any storage space at all. They were running for 6-8 hours and were not working. When you use the back up function it will take at least an hour (mine took 1hr 7min for backing up 40gb) to back up & reinstall. although all are 20GB get yourself a new drive immediately, clone your old drive to it and move it to "pasture" before it fails completely .. I have tried everything from dos utility to swissnife and all others. try downloading the manufacturers diagnostic utility and running it to see whether your drive is healthy or not ..
