The fact that you are getting a syntax error on line 4 would make me think either your CDROM is not reading correctly, or you have a scratch or debris on error message: incorrect function. Browse other questions tagged windows-xp installation or ask your own question. Then rinse it clean, pat dry it with paper towels.

This is the same disk that I always use to install and this is the first time I had a problem. He's in another state, so I can't physically help him & he desperately doesn't want to have to reinstall apps, etc. (Plus, I don't think he has very good data back-ups.)
